Rugipo Alumni Association Launches N250,000,000.00 (Two Hundred And Fifty Million Naira) Capacity Hospital Facilities In Rugipo, Owo Ondo State.

Protocol 

On behalf of the Ondo State Polytechnic, Owo (RUGIPO ) Governing Council, Management, Staff and Students of RUGIPO, I welcome all members of Alumni Association and our guests, to the Ancient Town of Owo, and to this great citadel of learning. I am particularly happy that you chose to identify with us at this time.

The Governor of Ondo State, Arakunrin Rotimi Akeredolu (SAN), by his activities and conducts, has issued a new template for leadership.

According to the Governor:

The goal of leadership is to meet needs and solve problems.

The essence of leadership is service.

The goal of leadership is the improvement of service delivery to the people.

No service improvement, no leadership!  Whenever we are not bringing improvement and position change, then no leadership.

The essence of leadership is service and it is served before greatness.

The essence of leadership is to identify talents among our employees and students and help nurture the talents to stardom.

If we are stagnant as leaders, then there is no leadership. The goals of leadership are to bring positive changes, and for delivery of the dividends of democracy to the people. We stand shoulder to shoulder with Mr. Governor in projecting 21st-century policies in the areas of infrastructural & industrialization development of RUGIPO.  We call on all members of the Alumni Association, all invited guests, all the citizens of Ondo State, and members of the international community to support the hospital project- NO AMOUNT IS TOO SMALL! The leadership of the Alumni Association will acknowledge and account for every kobo received!

As part of the support for the visionary leadership of Mr. Governor, we will partner with the government to deliver the dividends of democracy to our people. Our greatest assets at RUGIPO are our students and our employees and one way to demonstrate our respect for these people is to ensure that they have access to affordable and qualitative medical care and that each member of our polytechnic community returns home to their loved ones every day after school in one piece.

As at today, the current students’ population of RUGIPO is about 16,000 (full time and part time) and with the approval of NBTE for us to commence courses in about 30 new courses, our students’ population may reach 20,000 to 25,000 by the next academic year and our employees may rise to 2,500 within a year. Therefore, we need good medical facilities to cater to this great community.

‘’Health is wealth’’ is a famous proverb which means that health is everything and its importance is actually greater than the wealth. If one maintains his/her health, he could get everything else in life very easily. 

We will ensure that all our students, employees and members of their families have access to affordable quality health care. We will also extend the care to our host communities as part of our corporate social responsibilities.

With the hospital in place, we will register all our students, employees, members of their families and willing members of our host communities with the Managed Care/Health Insurance Scheme via the Tertiary Institution Social Health Insurance Programme.

The main objective of the Managed Care/ Health Insurance Scheme is to ensure access to Affordable and Qualitative Healthcare to the students, staff and family members of RUGIPO, our host communities and the public who enroll in the Scheme. Therefore, for as long as the students and staff are registered on the scheme, there will forever be fund to sustain the healthcare facility.

This fund will be used specifically for the sustenance and maintenance of the facility i.e.

- Purchase of Drugs

- Upgrade of Facility

- Payment of Adhoc Staff (Personnel)

- Purchase of Equipment and Furniture.

The scheme will provide primary and secondary healthcare for our students and never again will parents worry for the healthcare of their children and wards registered on the program.

The Governing Council will be working with Ondo State Development and Investment Agency (ONDIPA) on Our Light Up RUGIPO Initiative: the deal is to provide alternative and sustainable power energy that will provide RUGIPO 24 hours supply and eliminate millions of Naira spent on diesel every year. We have already had preliminary discussions with the Special Adviser to Ondo State Governor on Development and Investment, (ONDIPA), on the subject matter:  it is do-able!

The light up RUGIPO program will give our students and scientists, especially members of RUGIPO ENGINEERING AND SCIENTIFIC INNOVATION TEAM (RESIT), extended time to carry out studies and experiments that would lead to scientific discoveries. Our artisan centers, traders and our other IGR centers will flourish. With these actions, we will energize our students, lecturers, and our scientists and ensure that our IGRs are boosted.

Distinguished ladies and Gentlemen, RUGIPO has many challenges, but we will not deny, we will not ignore, we will not pass on these problems to the next Council or chairmen: we will confront them with focus, clarity, and courage.

With the intervention fund graciously provided to the school by Mr. Governor, we will maintain a consistent programme of activities through massive expenditures in infrastructural development and engaging competent local contractors who in turn must employ our willing students on a part-time basis to help fund their education as it's the case in the Western world.

The digitalization of all our processes is on course. We will deliver a paperless environment at RUGIPO, with very high-speed Internet facilities. By August 2019, as part of our Corporate Social Responsibility, we will extend this to our host community.

We have obtained a license for our Mass Communication Department to operate a radio station. RUGIPO Radio will be on air before the end of April 2019.

We have secured the hosting right for the NIPOGA Game 2020 as part of our 40 years’ anniversary as a school.

Ladies & Gentlemen, the executive order of Mr. Governor to our Council to “Retool, Reconstruct  & Reposition Ondo State Polytechnic, Owo ( RUGIPO) and make it a leading research institute committed to improving the human condition through advanced science and technology’’ is on course!
